Machine Tools Translation Case Study

Translation of very technical mechanic InDesign source files into Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese.

Background

The client is a professional precise digital control machine manufacturer with new products released every year. Since it has a large group of customers in Asia, it needs to have the user’s manual and its updates localized into the languages of target customers.

The Challenge

The hard part of this project is the terminologies, which must be maintained consistent with the previous translation. At the same time, the InDesign source files contain a lot of embedded AI vector diagrams, which require DTP engineer to manually extract the text for translation. In addition, the mechanical specialty requires translators to have mechanical translation experiences and expertise and be familiar with Trados and multi-lingual operation procedures.

The Solution

TIMESTRANS is familiar with mechanical translation and has a large mechanical term-base, and is quite experienced in localization, and so completed the project of multilingual localization smoothly. We worked closely with the client and translators to finalize the translation of all the terminologies first and then assigned mechanical professionals to do the translation with Trados. After the translation, proofreaders were assigned for proofreading and a native senior reviewer in each language for the quality assurance of the project.
