Medical Translation Case Study

Translation of very technical medical FrameMaker brochures into Simplified Chinese for Ethicon.

Background

Ethicon (a Johnson & Johnson company) is a global healthcare organization, and with networks across the world, has a great need for language services. TIMESTRANS has provided translation services for Ethicon via a Hong Kong agency.

The Challenge

Ethicon brochures are generally very technical and require highly specialized translation, and the main appliances to introduce are endoscopic dissector and gastroscope. The challenge of this project lies in the specialty and requirements for precision and particularity in translation. No ambiguous expressions are allowed.

The Solution

TIMESTRANS worked with Ethicon to create a system containing all the translations and terms. This will strip out all duplication and create consistent content. TIMESTRANS has already created for this client a database of index information, with over 5,000 fields. This enables the rapid collation of mandatory information for the index of products.

As well as implementing these technical solutions, TIMESTRANS ensures that strict quality procedures and checking processes are adhered to at all times, and to carry out these checking processes it employs the services of medical professionals throughout the China.

Using these control measures, TIMESTRANS maintains the required levels of consistency and accuracy throughout the translation process.
